December 6, 2023 – Santa Fe College (SF) understands how important it is to support the mental health and well-being of our students. Mental health is vital for academic success, personal growth and overall life quality. When students feel supported, they navigate college challenges, excel in learning and build strong relationships. Prioritizing mental health allows students to fulfill their potential.

Santa Fe College has partnered with TimelyCare to offer personalized healthcare solutions that cater to the unique needs of our students. In addition to on-demand support for common health issues like the cold and flu, TimelyCare offers 24/7 mental and emotional support by masters-level behavioral health professionals.

“The top reasons for mental health visits are anxiety, stress, relationship issues and depression,” SF Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Naima Brown said. “This is in line with what is being reported across the nation. TimelyCare is here to help students address and overcome these very common issues.”

TimelyCare stands out by offering easy access and comprehensive support. Mental health concerns may arise at any time. Help should not wait until a counseling center opens. Students can log into TimelyCare to receive around-the-clock assistance.

According to Dr. Brown, “39% of SF student visits occur after hours. This means that our students are using the resource after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and at all hours over the weekends. We are certainly meeting a need that had been unmet!”

Students do not have to hesitate to download the TimelyCare app. One look at the statistics demonstrates the program’s efficacy. Since its inception in August 2023:

  • 7.9% of students have downloaded and registered in the app, exceeding regional averages.
  • 17.2% of registered students have actively used TimelyCare.
  • 100% of users report improved mental health after a TalkNow Session.
  • The average visit rating is 4.9 out of 5.
  • The average provider rating is 4.9 out of 5.

“Other data,” Dr. Brown said, “shows that 70% of the downloads have occurred among students between 18-22 years of age. We are glad that it appeals to youth, and we want to see older students use the app, too!”

For a limited time, students who show that they have downloaded the app will receive a Mind Body Life t-shirt. Email brian.stanton@sfcollege.edu to arrange shirt pick up/delivery.

However, TimelyCare is more than getting a free shirt. It’s about backing students during their journeys. Department chairs and directors are invited to contact Dr. Brown to schedule a short TimelyCare presentation during their department meetings. This presentation can equip everyone to refer their students to the app.

“The more people referring students on campus,” Dr. Brown said, “the better informed our students will be about using this amazing resource.”

With 24/7 availability throughout the year, we encourage students to carry support with them, especially during holiday breaks, periods often crucial for maintaining mental wellness. Learn how at sfcollege.edu/studentlife/student-wellness/timelycare.
