January 5, 2024 – The Santa Fe College (SF) Teaching Zoo was featured in the December 2023/January 2024 issue of the Community College Journal. The zoo’s hands-on experiences and public benefits were highlighted along with an interview with Jonathan Miot, zoo director and professor.

As the only zoo on a college campus accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the SF Teaching Zoo is home to over 70 different species of animals. The site is maintained by students enrolled in the college’s premier Zoo Animal Technology program.

The SF Teaching Zoo also hosts community events like Party for the Planet, Brew at the Zoo and Boo at the Zoo, which drew approximately 6,400 guests last year.

The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo is located on SF’s Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville, Florida. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with last entry at 2:30 p.m. The zoo is open 7 days a week except for selected dates.
