“The Natural Sciences program at Santa Fe College,” Dr. Vertigo Moody, Chair of SF’s Natural Sciences Department said, “lays the foundations that prepares future scientists and engineers who will play a critical role in addressing real-world problems and challenges as well as providing all students with an appreciation for the empirical approach to understanding natural phenomena.”
In addition to guiding the development of the next generation of scientists, engineers, environmentalists and health providers, SF offers science courses for non-science majors as part of their general education.
What are Natural Sciences?
According to Dr. Moody, natural sciences include the study of nature using data from experiments and observations. They help us describe, understand and predict natural events.
“Because we live in the natural world,” Dr. Moody explained, “natural sciences help human societies and individuals understand the natural world to the benefit of our present and future societal needs by allowing individuals to acquire analytical skills, scientific reasoning and critical thinking skills that enhances knowledge, improve technology, and solve problems.”
What Classes are Considered Natural Sciences?
SF’s Natural Sciences programs cover the following scientific disciplines:

SF’s Natural Sciences programs are divided into two degree options: Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.). A.A. programs prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university. A.S. programs equip students for entry into the workforce.
