April 5, 2024 – Dr. Brent M. Ferns has been selected as the new Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (Career & Technical Education) at Santa Fe College. Originally a product of Lansing Community College, where he graduated with an associate degree in Management and Information Systems, Dr. Ferns went on to earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Information Management before working for several years in the automotive industry as an information technology professional. He then made the transition to higher education, where he taught for ten years prior to moving into leadership roles. Along the way, he also earned an MBA and a PhD in Information Technology.

Dr. Ferns comes to us most recently from South Florida State College, where he has served as the Dean of Applied Sciences & Technologies. Prior to his time at SFSC, he served in several roles at Palm Beach State College, first as a faculty member and department chair in Computer Science, and then as the Interim Associate Dean of Business & Computer Science. A devoted husband and father, Brent is a veteran of the Marine Corps. His first day at SF will be May 1.
