Santa Fe College’s Model UN Competes in Southern Regional Model UN Conference

April 11, 2024 – Santa Fe College’s Model United Nations team represented the countries of France and Jamaica in the most recent Southern Regional Model UN Conference, March 21-23. These students prepared advanced position papers on topics as diverse as the Israeli-Palestinian crises, sustainable urban transportation, and cybersecurity.

As France, Arasan Subramanian won Best Delegate in the Peacebuilding Commission and James Soler won Best Delegate in the Security Council. They joined their fellow delegation of France, including Kyle Coleman, Ryan Gorman, Steven Hernandez, Alix Itzkovitz, Eliora Kpessou, and Ike Smith, in winning an Overall Outstanding Position Paper Award and an Overall Honorable Delegation Award.

As Jamaica, Brianna-Nicole Facey and Krishna Batista won Outstanding Position Paper in the General Assembly and Daniel Cavalieros and Emilio Batista won Best Delegate in the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. Together, they brought home an Outstanding Position Paper Award and Honorable Delegation Award for Jamaica.

Additionally, current students, Josh Spence-Lehmann and Eden Chaffee, served as Assistant Directors of the Committee on Narcotic Drugs and the General Assembly. And, for the first time, SF alumna, Chantel Hover, served as the Conferences’ Secretary General.
