SAINTS STRUGGLE ON OFFENSE IN STATE TOURNAMENT LOSS TO TCC, 58-45

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints didn’t end their season the way they would have liked, falling to Tallahassee CC on Thursday afternoon 58-45 in the FCCAA State Tournament, ending their season.

“I think we got a little flustered early on with their defensive pressure and we never really adjusted like we needed to,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins. “TCC played very physical, and that’s a credit to how hard they play as a team.”

Tracie Sneed, playing her last game in a Saints uniform, led a struggling Santa Fe offense with 14 points. Lanita Bartley, also playing in her last SF game, scored 10 points.

The Saints led early on in the game, 13-8, but TCC took control over the last nine minutes of the first half and led at the half 27-23.

The scoring went back and forth in the second half before Tallahassee’s Mansa El took the game over, making three second half three pointers to help the Eagles pull away with a 23-11 run down the stretch.

SF shot only 17-for-52 (32.7%) from the field and 6-for-13 (46.2%) from the free throw line. TCC took 73 shots, 21 more than the Saints.

Sneed finished with 14 points and four rebounds, Bartley had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists and Leandra King had six points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

“Our sophomore class [including Bartley and Sneed] has meant so much to the program over the last two years,” said Stebbins. “On the court and academically, they are probably the best class I have had here as a coach at Santa Fe. They were apart of the first back to back MFC championship teams since the 1980’s for SF women’s basketball. I couldn’t be more proud of what they have accomplished and we are going to miss them.”
