“Kiss the Pig” Contest at SF Boots ‘n BBQ Cook-Off and Fundraiser

Florida’s most fun winter weekend, just 30 minutes from Gainesville!

What would you do for charity? Ever think of kissing a pig?

Eight prominent Bradford County citizens are competing for the chance to do just that in the Kiss the Pig contest at Santa Fe College’s Boots ‘n BBQ Cook-Off and scholarship fundraiser.

The contestant who gets voted the most money will smooch a pig. Every cent raised goes for scholarships to help Bradford County students attend Santa Fe College, so your vote is important.

The competitors are Cheryl Canova, SF Andrews Center director; Jeff Johnson, Starke chief of police; Bob Milner, Bradford County former sheriff; Beth Moore, Bradford County school superintendent; Gordon Smith, Bradford County sheriff; Sylvia Tatum, Starke businesswoman and board member of the SF College Foundation; Ricky Thompson, Starke city manager; and Terry Vaughan, Bradford County elections supervisor.

Vote as many times as you want. In fact, it’s encouraged. Get together with friends or coworkers and form a political action committee to support your favorite candidate. Stuff the ballot box, because each vote contributes toward scholarships.

The pig, which will be loaned by a member of Future Farmers of America, will be treated with due care and respect.

Vote early and vote often; it’s all for education. Visit www.bootsnbbq.com and click on the contest logo. A donation of $5 or more lets you cast your vote for the person you would most like to see kiss a pig.

Votes can also be cast for $1 each at several locations throughout Starke, such as at the Bradford County tax collector’s office, Community State Bank, Cowboy’s Steakhouse, Starke City Hall, and Western Steer Family Steak House.

On Monday, Feb. 7, all the contestants will wait tables at Cowboy’s Steakhouse from 6-8:30 p.m. It should be a lot of fun, and buckets for tips and votes will be out for each competitor. Cowboy’s is usually closed on Mondays, but is opening for this special event. The address is 1103 South Walnut Street, Starke.

The winning pig smooch will be featured at the SF Boots ‘n BBQ competition during Saturday’s festivities at 4:30 p.m., Feb. 12.

There’s fun for the whole family at Boots ‘n BBQ and live entertainment all weekend. The 2011 festival runs 5-9 p.m. Thursday Feb. 10, 5-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Bradford County Fairgrounds, rain or shine. Admission is $5 per day.
