SF MEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOHN’S NARROWLY DEFEATS SANTA FE, 81-76

Palatka, FL – For the second time this season, the St. John’s River State College Vikings had the Saints (17-9, 4-4 MFC) number late in the game, defeating SF 81-76. SJRSC beat SF in Gainesville 69-66 on January 16.

The loss puts Santa Fe one game behind St. John’s for second place in the Mid-Florida Conference. The top two teams represent the MFC at the State Tournament in Marianna in March.

St. John’s took a 47-43 lead into halftime after forcing a turnover with three seconds to go and hitting a deep three pointer at the buzzer.

The Saints had opportunities to take the lead in the second period but couldn’t come up with a big shot. SJRSC led the entire half and came up with key baskets down the stretch to hold on for their fifth conference win.

Jerome Clyburn led Santa Fe with 18 points, Brenton Williams chipped in 16 and Eddie D’Haiti scored 12.

The Saints next game is at home on Saturday, February 5 against Daytona State College at 4:00pm. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
