President Broadie to Receive Honorary Degree and Deliver Commencement Address at Alma Mater

May 12, 2022 – Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D. will be traveling to New York next week where he will receive an honorary degree as a Doctor of Humane Letters from his alma mater, Mercy College. The president earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mercy College before going on to earn his M.B.A. at Long Island University and his Ph.D. from Colorado State University. In addition to the honorary degree, President Broadie will also deliver the Commencement Address at Mercy College’s School of Education.

The president was selected for the honorary degree for his long history of dedication to higher education. Shortly after arriving at SF, he engaged key leaders in discussions of potential partnerships, took steps to bridge the digital divide by providing students in rural areas greater access to technology, and challenged college leaders to change the mentality, where it exists, that college is not for everyone.

Over his career that spans nearly three decades, Broadie has expanded academic programs, student services, innovative technology, community partnerships and campus facilities, always with a focus on the student.

The president makes the trip just a couple of weeks after presiding over SF’s 2022 Personalized Graduation Experience, during which 372 members of the Class of 2022 walked across the stage at the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall to celebrate with their families, classmates, faculty, staff, administrators and the District Board of Trustees.
