June 12, 2023 – Recently, Santa Fe College’s Coordinator of Veterans and Military Success Services, Sandra Torres-Pintos, was named the North Florida South Georgia 2023 Woman Veteran of the Year for her dedication to military veterans and their families. Because of the honor, Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward released a proclamation that June 12, 2023 is Sandra Torres-Pintos Day in the City of Gainesville.
Under Sandra’s leadership, SF has consistently been named both a Military Friendly college and a Best for Vets institution, including being named the number 1 college in the state of Florida for veterans and their families.
“Sandra has always supported our veteran students and their families,” SF Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Naima Brown said. “She has always been a fighter for them, and because of her, our veteran students are able to more easily navigate the unique complications they face. We are honored to have her as part of our Santa Fe family!”
The proclamation emphasizes the city’s support for veterans adding that the city has a “deep sense of gratitude to those who served in defense of this country.” Mayor Ward invited the entire community to celebrate Sandra for her distinguished recognition.
