April 11, 2024 – The Spring Arts Festival, through the sponsorship of the Mind, Body, Life initiative have collaborated with Jenna Horner, a local muralist known for her expertise in creating impactful art, particularly focusing on mental health themes.

Horner designed workshops and lessons to provide our students with the practical skills and knowledge to create public art related to mental health. This could include techniques in mural painting, understanding mental health themes, and the importance of public art in community engagement. The workshops provided hands-on instruction and guidance to students. This involved a combination of practical demonstrations, and interactive design and studio instruction.

After the final student-created designs were decided on, an 8’x8’ double-sided wall was constructed by the Spring Arts staff. After receiving instruction and guidance, Santa Fe College students have worked on creating a public art piece, “We’re stronger when we ask for help.”

The students have designed an interactive element to the mural that will allow all members of the Santa Fe College community the opportunity to participate in the mural’s creation. Once completed, the mural will be exhibited and displayed at Santa Fe College’s Northwest Campus during the Spring Arts Festival, April 13 and 14, as well as during the Mind, Body, Life Symposium.
