ICYMI: CTLE Faculty Spotlights

December 28, 2023 – CTLE Faculty Spotlights highlight Santa Fe College instructors who implement new and innovative strategies in their classrooms. Check out each spotlight to learn more about the instructor, what they are doing in their classrooms and how to apply it to your own courses.

Here are 2023’s CTLE Faculty Spotlights:

  • Andy Sheppard: Andy is exploring a myriad of ways that ChatGPT and AI can be used in the classroom to enhance critical thinking and the student experience.

  • Dr. Tania Cordova-Sintjago: Dr. Cordova-Sintjago was an early adopter of light board technology and soon began creating a content repository.

  • Dr. Katherin Garland: Dr. Garland uses Project Based Learning (PBL), a teaching method where students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects.

  • Tommy Maple: Tommy uses simple and effective strategies to make every student feel seen and respected.

  • Dr. Marcela Murillo: The innovations Dr. Murillo uses in the classroom include virtual exchanges, online language learning and a partnership with the Learning Commons.

  • James Fortuna: James designed the Florida Parks Project, which encourages students to connect the ideas they’ve learned in class to Florida’s culturally significant natural sites. 

  • Breanne Hooks: Breanne uses cultural and historical aspects of math (ethnomathematics) to teach students the subject while adding perspective and relevance to the class.
